Who would have thought 20 years ago that there would be a fashion line for prosthetic devices?
Thanks to entrepreneurs and designers we now have designer options for our prosthetics. First in the adaptive fashion market was Alleles. Hardshell custom-made leg covers for lower legs, were invented for giving a real leg look yet high fashion. These covers run from 300 to 1200 for one cover.
As a new amputee, I could not wait to get my hardcover from Alleles, it was a motivation while waiting for my first let. I did get my cover, but I also wanted more options for the look of my prosthetic, and at a lower price point.
With 20+ years as a dressmaker and pattern maker, I decided to create a cover made from lycra to custom fit my socket.
Please let us know if you have any questions about prosthetic sleeves and covers for your device. Even if you have a fabric you are thinking of but don't see it here, send us an email.
Cheers All
Joan
